How to become a military doctor in the Philippines
Like military nursing, this is two qualifications in sequence: full civilian licensure as a physician, then a professional commission into the Medical Corps. The military does not train you as a doctor.
Who regulates this
The Professional Regulatory Board of Medicine under the PRC licenses you. The Medical Corps of the Armed Forces of the Philippines commissions you. The governing statute is Republic Act 2382, the Medical Act of 1959.
The route
Pre-medical studies, then a Doctor of Medicine degree from a government-recognised college. One full calendar year of internship as prescribed by the Board of Medical Education. The Physician Licensure Examination, then PRC registration. Then application to the Medical Corps for a direct or professional commission, rather than through the PMA or the general officer route.
What catches people out
RA 2382 sets the pass standard at a general average of 75% with no grade below 50% in any subject, and separately bars practice below the age of 21 — which can bind an unusually fast-tracked graduate. Citizenship, or documented reciprocity, is a condition of sitting the exam at all.
Military doctor salary in the Philippines
A military doctor is paid as an officer of their rank, not on a clinical scale — the same table as every other AFP officer, and the same flat rate per rank with no step increments. What moves your pay is promotion, and promotion in the Medical Corps runs on the military timetable rather than a clinical one. Subsistence allowance is ₱350.00 a day, and the schedule rises again in January 2027 and January 2028 under the same executive order.
