Become a certified nail tech in New Mexico
To become a certified nail technician in New Mexico, you must first complete a state-approved nail technician program. These programs can be found at vocational schools, community colleges, and private beauty schools. The program must consist of at least 350 hours of training, which includes both classroom instruction and hands-on practice.
Once you have completed the program, you must pass the New Mexico State Board of Barbers and Cosmetologists' written and practical exams. The written exam covers topics such as sanitation, safety, and nail anatomy, while the practical exam assesses your ability to perform various nail services, such as manicures, pedicures, and artificial nail applications.
After passing both exams, you must submit an application for licensure to the New Mexico State Board of Barbers and Cosmetologists. The application must include proof of completion of a state-approved nail technician program, proof of passing the written and practical exams, and a fee.
Once you have received your license, you must renew it every two years by completing continuing education courses and paying a renewal fee. It is important to note that practicing nail technology without a license is illegal in New Mexico and can result in fines and legal action.
