Become a certified mechanic in Florida
To become a certified mechanic in Florida, FL, there are a few steps that need to be followed. Firstly, an individual needs to complete a high school diploma or equivalent. After that, they need to enroll in a vocational or technical school that offers automotive technology programs. These programs usually take around 6-12 months to complete and provide hands-on training in repairing and maintaining vehicles.
Once the program is completed, the individual needs to gain work experience in the field. This can be done by working as an apprentice or entry-level technician in a repair shop or dealership. The work experience should be at least two years long.
After gaining the required work experience, the individual needs to take and pass the ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification exams. These exams test the individual's knowledge and skills in various areas of automotive repair and maintenance.
Once the individual passes the ASE exams, they can apply for certification from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (NIASE). This certification is recognized nationwide and is a requirement for many employers.
In addition to the NIASE certification, the state of Florida also requires mechanics to obtain a Motor Vehicle Repair Registration (MVRR). This registration is obtained by submitting an application and fee to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
