Become a licensed therapist in Houston
To become a licensed therapist in Houston, there are several steps that need to be taken. Firstly, one must obtain a bachelor's degree in psychology or a related field. After completing the undergraduate degree, one must then pursue a master's degree in counseling or a related field. During the master's program, students will be required to complete a certain number of supervised clinical hours. Once the master's degree is completed, individuals must then pass the National Counselor Examination (NCE) or the National Clinical Mental Health Counseling Examination (NCMHCE). After passing the exam, individuals must then complete a certain number of post-graduate supervised clinical hours. Finally, individuals must apply for licensure through the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors. This process includes submitting an application, providing proof of education and supervised clinical hours, and passing a criminal background check. Once licensed, therapists must continue to meet continuing education requirements to maintain their license.
