Become a licensed architect in Puerto Rico

To become a licensed architect in Puerto Rico, PR, you must first obtain a professional degree in architecture from an accredited institution. The degree must be recognized by the Puerto Rico Board of Examiners of Architects and Landscape Architects. Once you have completed your degree, you must then gain practical experience by working under a licensed architect for a minimum of three years.

After completing your practical experience, you must then pass the Architect Registration Examination (ARE). The ARE is a comprehensive exam that tests your knowledge and skills in various areas of architecture, including site planning, building design, and construction documents. The exam is administered by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB).

Once you have passed the ARE, you must then apply for licensure with the Puerto Rico Board of Examiners of Architects and Landscape Architects. The application process includes submitting your education and experience credentials, passing a background check, and paying the required fees.

After your application has been approved, you will be issued a license to practice architecture in Puerto Rico. It is important to note that architects in Puerto Rico must renew their license every two years and complete continuing education requirements to maintain their license.
