Become a licensed architect in India
To become a licensed architect in India, one must first complete a five-year Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) degree from a recognized university or institution. The course curriculum includes subjects such as design, construction technology, history of architecture, and building services. After completing the degree, one must undergo a one-year internship under a registered architect to gain practical experience.
Once the internship is completed, the candidate must register with the Council of Architecture (COA), which is the regulatory body for architects in India. The registration process involves submitting the necessary documents, including the degree certificate, internship completion certificate, and other relevant documents. The COA also conducts a written examination and an interview to assess the candidate's knowledge and skills.
After passing the COA examination, the candidate is eligible to apply for a license to practice as an architect. The license is issued by the state-level architecture council, and the candidate must renew it periodically to continue practicing as an architect.
Apart from the educational and registration requirements, an aspiring architect must possess certain skills and qualities, such as creativity, attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and good communication skills. They must also keep themselves updated with the latest trends and technologies in the field of architecture to provide innovative and sustainable solutions to their clients.
