How to become a general practitioner in India

Becoming a general practitioner in India requires a combination of education, training, and licensing. The first step is to complete a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from a recognized medical college or university. This typically takes five and a half years and includes both classroom and clinical training.

After completing the MBBS degree, aspiring general practitioners must complete a one-year internship at a hospital or clinic. This provides hands-on experience in various medical specialties and helps to develop clinical skills.

Once the internship is complete, the next step is to obtain a license to practice medicine in India. This requires passing the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and registering with the Medical Council of India (MCI) or the state medical council.
