Become a certified mediator in Texas
To become a certified mediator in Texas, there are several steps that need to be followed. Firstly, an individual must complete a 40-hour basic mediation training course that is approved by the Texas Mediation Trainers Roundtable (TMTR). This course covers the fundamentals of mediation, including communication skills, conflict resolution, and negotiation techniques. After completing the course, the individual must then complete a minimum of three mediations under the supervision of a certified mediator. These mediations must be conducted in accordance with the Texas Alternative Dispute Resolution Procedures Act (TADRA). Once the three mediations have been completed, the individual must submit an application to the Texas Mediator Credentialing Association (TMCA) along with proof of completion of the basic mediation training course and the three supervised mediations. The application will be reviewed by the TMCA, and if approved, the individual will be granted certification as a mediator in Texas. It is important to note that certification must be renewed every two years, and continuing education is required to maintain certification.
