Become a certified mediator in Oregon
To become a certified mediator in Oregon, there are several steps that need to be taken. First, an individual must complete a 40-hour basic mediation training program that is approved by the Oregon State Bar. This training program covers the fundamentals of mediation, including communication skills, conflict resolution techniques, and ethical considerations.
After completing the basic mediation training program, an individual must then complete an additional 20 hours of advanced mediation training. This training can cover a variety of topics, such as family mediation, workplace mediation, or environmental mediation.
Once an individual has completed the required training, they must then apply to become a certified mediator with the Oregon State Bar. This application includes providing proof of completion of the required training, as well as passing a background check and providing references.
After the application is approved, the individual must then complete a minimum of 20 hours of continuing education every two years to maintain their certification. This continuing education can be in the form of additional mediation training, attending conferences or workshops, or participating in other professional development activities.
