Become a certified mediator in Minnesota
To become a certified mediator in Minnesota, there are several steps that need to be taken. First, an individual must complete a 30-hour basic mediation training course that is approved by the Minnesota Supreme Court. This course covers the fundamentals of mediation, including communication skills, conflict resolution techniques, and ethical considerations.
After completing the basic training, the individual must then complete an additional 40 hours of advanced mediation training. This training can be in a specific area of mediation, such as family or workplace mediation, and must also be approved by the Minnesota Supreme Court.
Once the training requirements have been met, the individual must then apply to become a qualified neutral with the Minnesota Supreme Court. This involves submitting an application, completing a background check, and paying a fee.
After being approved as a qualified neutral, the individual must then complete a certain number of mediations under the supervision of an experienced mediator. This is known as the apprenticeship period and typically involves completing 25-50 mediations.
Finally, the individual must pass a written and oral exam administered by the Minnesota Supreme Court. Once they have passed the exam, they will be certified as a mediator in Minnesota and can begin practicing as a neutral in various mediation settings.
