Become a certified mediator in Maine
To become a certified mediator in Maine, there are several steps that need to be taken. First, an individual must complete a 40-hour basic mediation training program that is approved by the Maine Court Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Program. This program covers the fundamentals of mediation, including communication skills, conflict resolution techniques, and ethical considerations.
After completing the basic mediation training, the individual must then complete an additional 20 hours of advanced mediation training. This training can cover a variety of topics, such as family mediation, workplace mediation, or community mediation.
Once the required training is completed, the individual must then submit an application to the Maine Court ADR Program to become a certified mediator. The application includes a background check and references from individuals who can attest to the applicant's mediation skills.
If the application is approved, the individual will then be required to observe and co-mediate at least two mediations under the supervision of a certified mediator. After completing these observations, the individual can then apply for certification as a mediator in Maine.
