Become a certified mechanic in Ireland
To become a certified mechanic in Ireland, one must first complete a formal education in automotive technology. This can be achieved by enrolling in a vocational school or college that offers automotive technology programs. These programs typically take two to three years to complete and cover topics such as engine repair, brake systems, electrical systems, and more.
After completing the educational requirements, aspiring mechanics must gain practical experience by working in the field. This can be achieved by working as an apprentice or trainee mechanic in a garage or dealership. During this time, mechanics will gain hands-on experience working on a variety of vehicles and systems.
Once the educational and practical requirements have been met, mechanics can then apply to become certified by the Irish National Accreditation Board (INAB). The INAB offers certification for a variety of automotive specialties, including light vehicle mechanics, heavy vehicle mechanics, and motorcycle mechanics.
