To become a certified public accountant (CPA) in Texas, there are several steps that you need to follow. The first step is to complete a bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field from an accredited college or university. You must also complete at least 150 semester hours of college education, which includes 24 semester hours of accounting courses and 24 semester hours of business courses.
After completing your education, you must pass the Uniform CPA Exam, which is administered by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). The exam consists of four sections: Auditing and Attestation, Business Environment and Concepts, Financial Accounting and Reporting, and Regulation.
You must pass all four sections within an 18-month period to become a licensed CPA in Texas.
